Operating on an island creates unique weather challenges. For example, high solar heat, strong humidity, and lake-effect thermal shifts affect the site. Precision Engineering & Performance Demands
A reliable telescope dome cover must maintain thermal balance. In addition, it must stop internal air currents that distort sky views. We solved these needs with careful material choices and tension geometry:
- Solar Heat Control: We used technical membranes with high solar reflectance. Consequently, this lowers passive heat gain around sensitive instruments.
- Wind Load Dynamics: We shaped the form using 3D finite element analysis. Thus, the structure handles turbulent winds up to 45 m/s with ease.
- Weather Sealing: We engineered dual-flange elastomeric seals and welded seams. Because of this, the cover blocks rain, moisture, and dust during harsh monsoon storms.
- Smooth Motion Clearance: We matched the structural ring to the rotating dome radius. Hence, the dome turns smoothly with zero friction along mechanical pathways.
End-to-End Execution
