Entrance Canopy – Atal Sarovar, Rajkot
As part of the Rajkot Smart City Mission, the Atal Sarovar Entrance Canopy stands as a striking example of sustainable urban design and tensile engineering by SCHAFBOCK DESIGN WORKSHOP PVT. LTD. Conceived as a monumental gateway to the expansive public landscape of Atal Sarovar, the canopy blends functionality, visual grandeur, and civic symbolism.
The structure features an inclined double-arch form, symbolizing progress and openness. Engineered with high-grade Mehler Type 3 PVDF-coated fabric and epoxy-finished steel, it demonstrates strength, flexibility, and long-term durability. Spanning large distances with minimal structural material, the canopy creates a dramatic visual impact while maintaining a lightweight, efficient design.
Designed to serve as a welcoming landmark, the canopy offers shade and comfort to visitors entering the park. Its integrated lighting system highlights the architectural form at night, creating a vibrant and dynamic visual experience.
Despite significant site challenges — including uncast foundations and alignment with a yet-to-be-installed flagpole — the SCHAFBOCK team achieved flawless precision through advanced fabrication, coordination, and structural planning.
Today, the Atal Sarovar Entrance Canopy not only enhances Rajkot’s skyline but also represents a forward-thinking approach to public infrastructure — merging aesthetic vision, sustainability, and engineering excellence under India’s Smart City initiative.
