The Tensile Shade Somnath project serves thousands of daily devotees at the Nishulk Bhojanalay dining hall. Shree Somnath Trust commissioned Schafbock to build this durable architectural shelter. Furthermore, the canopy combines heavy-duty coastal strength with visual elegance.
Active temple complexes require efficient site management. Therefore, our team fabricated the components off-site to prevent operational delays during erection.
Marine-Grade Durability and High-Wind Resistance
The site stands directly on the open coastline of Prabhas Patan. Consequently, the canopy faces salt spray, intense sun, high humidity, and extreme cyclonic gusts. Standard outdoor shelters deteriorate quickly in these marine settings. However, our engineering team created a specialized system to overcome these hazards:
- Cyclonic Wind Resistance: The geometry withstands wind speeds exceeding 180 km/h (50 m/s). As a result, the structure remains stable during major Arabian Sea storms.
- Corrosion Protection: The steel framework features hot-dip galvanizing and heavy polyurethane topcoats. Thus, it resists salt corrosion and rust over decades.
- Architectural PVDF Membrane: The high-tensile fabric blocks harmful UV rays and lowers radiant heat. In addition, its slick surface sheds coastal grime during rains.

Long-Term Performance and Public Utility
